Pinewood Derby 2009

Seth and I (with a little help from Nate--thanks!) made the MOST awesome car for the Pinewood Derby. Seth LOVES the older style Camero's, so that is what we made! Nate cut it out and helped with some of the axel work, then Seth and I sanded, painted, taped, painted some more, and polished! We thought it looked pretty cool, and he won the award for "Most Realistic-looking Car."

We did a few little "extra" things and ended up with a pretty fast little car! We were just hoping for better than last year. (Unfortunately last years car looked really cool, but was super slow!) We weren't disappointed, he ended up in second place. He was pretty nervous to race...

But he won the first one! His car is #4.

He was pretty excited and ran down to get his car (sorry about the demon eyes!).But due to a "technical difficulty", they reran this race (one of the cars lost a wheel on the way) and the next race he barely lost. We still have next year to make our "perfect" car! And it was fun to see all of the cool cars!

A Seth silly!

As we were saying prayers and reading scriptures tonight, Seth said he had a question for us.  He was wondering what "harmracks" were and why everyone at church always blessed them when they prayed.  We asked him about it for a bit and finally decided...

... it may be time to stop praying "that no HARM or ACCIDENT"...

Brownies...cookies...or BOTH!!!

I needed chocolate. Since Bug is my new sidekick in the kitchen, she thought we should make brownies. Surprised? I wasn't either! Now, I'm a brownie lover, don't get me wrong, but I just needed something more! So, I went on a search...and found the recipe for these yummy brownies...

And they were "Oh So Tasty" and super easy! Yep, about as easy as Bug's famous Homemade Brownies!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Brownies

One package brownie mix (family size) and ingredients to mix it up as directed on the box

One package chocolate chip cookie mix and the ingredients to mix it up as directed on the box

Chocolate Ganache (recipe follows)

Mix both mixes up as directed on the boxes. Pour brownie mix into a 9 x 13 pan that you have greased the bottom of. Place dollops of cookie dough on top of the brownie dough and smoosh them into the brownie dough. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted 2" from the edge comes out clean. Cool completely, and then pour ganache over the top. Then comes the hardest part--LET IT SET! Cut and ENJOY!

Chocolate Ganache

1 pkg chocolate chips

3/4 cup heavy cream

6 TBS butter

Heat butter and cream in a pan til just before boiling. Pour over chocolate chips and let set for about 30 seconds to melt chocolate. Whisk til smooth.

Oh, they are SO good, my family has almost eaten the whole pan already!

Good Luck Uncle Russell!

We just wanted to tell Uncle Russell good luck. He is leaving tomorrow for Basic and Officers Training for the US Army. We are so honored that he would choose to defend the freedoms that we enjoy here in America. We're very proud of him!

Tonight at dinner...

...Pyper's spleen ruptured! This is what happened!

I think she has been hanging around with Hannah too long! Hannah's spleen still ruptures quite often! I'm also pretty sure that Pyper doesn't know what a spleen is either!

Bug's Photography Skills

Cami and Jason gave Bug a little camera (Hannah Montana even!) for Christmas. She has been taking pictures of EVERYTHING! She has taken pics around the house, of her friends, and even took it skiing a couple of times! I have replaced the batteries about six times, good thing it is a digital camera and I don't have to develop film too! She wanted to show off her new skills, so I made this little slideshow of her work. I think she has real potential! How about you?

Happy New Year Part 2!

We decided that one night of partying for New Years just wasn't enough, so last night we went over to Loopy and Dustin's house for some more partying--this time Rock Band style! We ate some yummy tequila lime chicken, fried little smokies, and LOTS of Laffy Taffy! Then we rocked the rest of the night away! It is a good thing that everyone was pretty comfortable together, there were people and kids everywhere! (It was especially funny when my kidlets decided to crash out in the middle of the floor and doorway.)

We are so glad we have such fun people to hang out with, thanks guys it was a blast!

Happy New Year!

We had a fun time at our house ushering in the new year. The "boys" went snowboarding and the "girls" had a tea party.

Bug cheesed it for a picture as usual!

Hannah "choked" on her cookies...

And Pyper remembered "pinky out" while drinking her tea.

Then we had a bunch of people over for a party. Our house was bursting at the seams. (OK, so it really doesn't take very many people for that to happen!) Since it was Leslie's birthday, I made the BEST chocolate cake I think I have ever eaten! We put a few candles on for her "plenty-seventh" birthday and she got them all blown out, with a little help from some children!

We had sandwiches on yummy potato rolls. (Yep, I made those too! Just call me Betty Crocker!) We played a bit of "Dance Dance Revolution" and just had a great time. We are not as great of dancers as we are rockers, but it was fun anyway!

Thanks everyone for coming over and playing with us, we had a wonderful time!
