A little election humor

Yesterday I decided to go vote when my younger girls left for school. Since the polling location was just across the street at the City Office building, I walked over with Lyra and Pyper on their way to school.

It's been kind of fun this election year. Since my kids are older, we've talked a lot more about politics than we have in the past. It's been fun to watch them form their opinions of the candidates and ask questions about how the whole election process works.

Pyper asked me as I kissed her goodbye in front of the City Office if she could vote. I told her she could when she got home from school, thinking that she meant on a kids site online that we had talked about the night before. She and Lyra went off to school and I voted and went about my day.

Fast forward a few hours...Pyper came home from school, and the first thing she said to me was "Mom, can I go vote now?" I told her sure, we'd look up a site and she could vote. That wasn't what she wanted. "No mom, I want to go to the building you did this morning and push the buttons like you did before when I got to vote." The last time we had an election, she was 3 and came with me while I voted. Apparently, she felt that she needed to "vote" again, and she was not very happy when I explained that she wasn't old enough to vote!

I gave her my "I Voted" sticker and that made it a little better!  Then we got chatting about school. I asked if they had a vote at school today. She told me that her teacher had them put their heads on their desks and then raise their hands for either Romney or Obama.

We talked about who had won in her class vote, and we would have to see if her class prediction was right or not. She asked me if she had to tell me who she voted for. We talked about how in the United States we have a secret ballot, so she doesn't have to tell anyone who she voted for unless she wants to and that was probably why her teacher had them put their heads on their desks when they voted at school.

She then informed me that she didn't care if I knew that she voted for Romney. I asked if she had any particular reason that she had chosen Romney over Obama, curious as to what she would say. (I'll admit that sometimes I like to encourage her along just to see what she'll say cause it's usually pretty funny. This time was no exception!)

Her reply? "Well mom, if Obama gets to be the president again, then his wife isn't going to let us have pizza at school lunch anymore!"  Ah, the stresses of second grade politics!

Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween! This year we have...
Sally, from Nightmare Before Christmas...

SplendorMan (he tells me he is from a video game)...

 Flo, from the Progressive commercials...

and Mary Poppins in her Jolly Holiday finery!

We also had a yummy dinner of witches brew, brain matter, baked intestines, giants' eyes, and worm sandwiches!

I was kind of hoping for a repeat of last year when all my costume making was finished a few days before Halloween. But alas, I was finishing up last night. I can't decide which costume is my favorite this year. I was really excited about how the Mary Poppins costume turned out (and Pyper LOVES it!), Hannah makes a really great Sally, I don't think there is a more perfect "Flo" than my Bug, and Seth looked really awesome and the costume looks just like SplendorMan!

Baby you can drive my car...

Monday Hannah went on her last "drive" for Driver's Ed. She was pretty nervous! This was THE drive that would decide if she was a good enough driver to be able to get her license. Sunday night, Grandma Charlene came and took her to practice her skills (thanks Grandma! You're a brave soul!)    Grandma must have done a good job, Hannah's teacher told her he was having a Proud Teacher's Moment. Apparently she has some mad parallel parking skills, he told her it was the best he's ever seen.

She had to wait until the 19th to actually get her license (you know, that whole "having a permit for 6 months" rule), so yesterday we went to the DLD and she's now completely legal! To celebrate, she and Seth drove to Logan last night, ALONE, to get pizza for dinner.

Congrats my Hannah! I'm so proud of you!

Poetry Reading

Tonight, Bugga's 5th grade class did a poetry reading for their families. They all had to choose a fun poem to share. Bugga read "Lost" by Shel Silverstein. I was pretty excited, he is one of my favorites!  Here is a little video of her reading. It is a cute poem.

My Chauffeur

I'm not really sure I'm ready for this. On a positive note, I haven't driven us anywhere for about a week!

First Day of School 2012-2013

We did more things this summer, honest. But my camera sat tucked safely away in the cupboard. It was a rough summer for me, and I will admit I spent most of it focusing on getting through it and taking care of my family. We are home now, and life has settled down a bit. School started on Thursday.  Here are their first day pictures!

Pyper, 2nd Grade

Lyra, 5th Grade (I love this girl's sassiness! In case the shirt looks familiar, that's because it is! They are both 10's in my book!)

Seth, 7th Grade

Hannah, 10th Grade (this was actually her second day of school. She had went the day before for a Sophomore orientation and I forgot to take her picture. I can't believe she is in real live HIGH SCHOOL!)
Most of them had a great day at school, and they all like their teachers, can't ask for much more than that!

North Dakota Petting Zoo

We did an event in Mott, North Dakota.  I am NOT a fan of North Dakota. The sun comes up INSANELY early (like 4 am early), it's hot, and flat--not even a small hill in sight. But, my girls sure did like the animals in this little petting zoo! Bugga manned the camera, I'll spare you most of the pictures that she took, but here are a few.

Our July 4th fireworks

Over the 4th of July, the kids and I were at home for camps and such. So we went up and spent the day with Grandma Charlene and Grandpa Brent, who were camping with some of our other family. We had a fun time, but missed out on doing fireworks. (Silly fire bans!)  We met back up with David in Duck Valley, Nevada the next weekend for a Pow-Wow. Since we were on the reservation, fireworks were legal. And Nevada didn't have a fire ban. So we bought a bunch and had our own fireworks show!

We shot Roman Candles,

had the biggest sparklers I have ever seen,

And a bunch of mortars, smoke bombs, flowers, and whizzers.  We had a great time lighting them all off.  Then one of the owners of the fireworks stands came out and put on a HUGE display!

I think we did a pretty good job celebrating!

Sometimes when we drive...

...we get very bored. Then we (or Bugga and Pyper in this case) take random pictures with my phone. Then they tell me to post them on my blog.  Sometimes we post them to Instagram while we are driving. You can see those, and a few more things we did this summer, HERE.

Baby Animal Days 2012

We have never been to Baby Animal Days at the American West Heritage Center. This year we (except Hannah, she went to a friend's house) decided to go, no matter what!! It was COLD, and snowy-ish. Grandma Charlene braved the cold with us. I'm glad we decided to go, it warmed up and was a nice day!

First up was the baby ducks and chicks. They were so soft!

There were lots of fun things to do. Like petting the mini horses, and getting your picture taken while standing on a log thingie...(Seriously, Pyper said "Mom take a picture of me standing on this thing." So I did!

We rode the train. But they made me ride alone. Pyper and Grandma rode in front of me...
Then Seth and Bugga rode behind me. But they couldn't share a car either...
They held the baby lambs. A lot. They were a favorite.

They all held the baby goats. I only got a picture of Pyper before I had to flee the cage. You see, there was one particular Momma Goat who was he!!-bent on biting my tush. It didn't matter where I went, she followed and tried to bite my rear. My kids thought it was the funniest thing, I was not so amused.

Next we went and held the baby bunnies. This picture is really dark because we were inside and I took these pics with my cell phone. Trust me, they really are holding bunnies!

There were pony rides too. But alas, Pyper was the only one small enough to ride the little ponies. The rest of us waved as she rode around. When she got off, she informed me it was kinda dumb to just ride around in a circle!

Last of all we went and saw the baby bears that were there from Bear World. They were so cute and we were having so much fun watching them that I forgot to take a picture of them. But I got one of this cute little bear...

Seth's Archery Competition

At Seth's school, they give the kids the opportunity to participate in different after school activities. Seth chose to do archery. He had a competition in Salt Lake yesterday. While he didn't get a hat or plaque, he DID manage to hit the target every single time...I think that is a HUGE feat itself, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been so lucky!

Again!

So, just a few days ago, I posted about how the "Pyperisms" were becoming fewer and farther between. wouldn't you know it, she came up with another one!

Pyper was doing her homework on Saturday, and she came running out to me and said, "Mom, have you seen the Bionical pencils?"
Me: "The Bionical pencils?"
Pyper: "Yeah, you know, the Bionical ones, they have that writer stuff that you click out?"

She meant MECHANICAL pencils. I really should correct her, but she is just so dang funny!

A Pyperism

It's been a while since there was a "Pyperism". She's getting bigger and they are getting fewer and farther between, sadly. But today I asked her to get something for me...

Mom:" Pyps, can you run grab me ...."(I actually can't remember what I asked her to get!)
Pyper: "Sure!"
Mom: ...waits for a very long time..."Pyps, did you get lost?"
Pyper: "Oh, sorry Mom, I just got side distracted!"

Oh what a funny gal she is!
